2. Sindhu Menon in Hollywood!.
Actress Sindhu Menon, who has worked in many films in all four South Indian languages, is getting busier day by day. She seems to be the most sought-after heroine now, and is making inroads into Hollywood too. Reportedly the actress has bagged two international projects recently. "This Hollywood project was offered to me in 2007, for which the paperwork came through in October. I also have another English film in the pipeline, which will be launched in July and will go on the floors in October," she revealed. "I was surprised when I got this offer as no one on the team had seen any of my films. They just read an interview of mine and liked my picture. That's how I got this film," she said. Sindhu's first international project, directed by Brad Peter, is about an Indian girl who falls in love with an Englishman." The film captures the problems faced by the girl in the relationship. What's special about this film is that they show how the man is ready to do anything for the girl. I just finished the first 15 days of filming and it's gone off brilliantly," she added.

7. Fashion designers turn movie directors.
Ace stylists like Sabysachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra are eyeing Bollywood with plans to direct movies on romance, art and more. Though their numbers are still small, fashion designers turning movie directors seems to be quite the fad.
Kolkata-based Mukherjee has said that he is ready with the script for his directorial debut and that he has also finalised the actors and producer for his venture.
Calling it a natural progression, Mukherjee told IANS: "I won't reveal much about my project, but all I can say is the idea to direct a movie is not new. I wanted to do it for a long time and it is just a matter of right time."
Mukherjee, who designed for movies like Black, Baabul and Paa, said his film will have nothing to do with the fashion industry; it would be based on the life of a painter. His colleague, designer Rahul Jain of the label Sirali, is however making a film on the fashion world and the idea struck him after he watched Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion.
"Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to make a movie. It was just a matter of time. After watching Fashion, I decided to go ahead with my dream. It was a very bad movie. I didn't like it at all," said Jain.
"I'm making this movie just to break the notion that fashion is only about glamour. A lot of hard work goes behind it. The movie will talk about the pain, agony and discrimination that goes into this fashion circuit. It is not based on any fiction but all that I have observed, seen and dared to talk about," he added.
Jain is currently working on the script and plans to work on post-production next year.
Celebrity designer Manish Malhotra too wants to try his luck in the film business by going behind the camera. "I very much want to do that. But fashion shows, movies and personal clients keep me so busy that I find it difficult to take out time and work on it. Hopefully, I will start the process next year," Malhotra told IANS.
"It will be a love story. I can't reveal much about it. Just wait and watch," he added.
Malhotra has designed for movies like Raja Hindustani, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dhadkan, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho.
According to Jain, big screen is the best way to reach out to people and present your ideas and views. "There are times when you want to throw light on some subjects that have been misinterpreted by media or filmmakers; this medium is the best way to reach out to people," Jain explained.
Young designer Nitin Bal Chauhan, who tries to express his feelings through his clothes, prefers making a documentary. He directed Lost or Found (2006) that was nominated for best cinematography at The Art House in Singapore as part of the Asian Festival of First Films 2006.
For Chauhan, expressing his emotions through documentaries is much better than directing a movie.
"I am more comfortable directing documentaries - they are short and to the point. They are the best way to express what you feel about certain topics and don't require that much investment," he said.
"It's just a mode of expression. If you want to express something and know how to do it, you can go ahead with it," he added.
In 2007, Mumbai-based designer Vikram Phadnis too had talked about his plans to direct, but hasn't started working on the project.
Phadnis too is associated with the Hindi film industry - he designed for movies like Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Salaam Namaste and Salaam-E-Ishq.
8. The naughty crore ‘pati’.
Do celebs have strange sexual fetishes? Last week, my colleague at Zoom asked me pensively,” I wonder what made Tiger Woods do it.” His innocent question brought out other names from the closet. I recalled stories I had heard over the years. Initially I used to get shocked. Like the first time my gay friends told me about this eighties’ superstar who pretended to be a total stud with women. But late in the night, he would allegedly visit the men’s public toilet where gay men would already be waiting in anticipation. His car was often spotted outside the toilet. A famous designer had pretty much a similar story. Perhaps still trying to summon the to face his sexual preferences, he would often ‘use’ the toilet near the Bandra talaab.
This is not just about gay men pretending to be straight. There are weirder tales. Like this Southern star who is worshipped in the south. He would have this particular suite at his favourite hotel. A friend who was training at the hotel told me, “I don’t know what this star does. He walks in at 9pm, requests for six candles and has three eunuchs with him.” Interesting but only the star or the eunuchs would know what they did inside.
A good-looking villain from the black-and-white era loved girls. I remember a film mag’s editor telling me this. Nothing wrong with loving girls. Except that the girls could be no older than thirteen! And we judge poor Tiger Woods! Another yesteryears’ super star would love to burn his beautiful wife’s thighs with cigarettes. The Pali Hill wives were no less. They were notorious for hosting kitty parties where they paid male escorts. While the star husbands played the field, the wives did their bit.
A well-known producer and financier from the nineties always slept with his heroines. So we would call this phenomenon the casting couch. Seems like he took the term couch rather seriously. Someone walked into the room accidentally once and saw him in bed with this dusky actress. What totally stunned him was that this filmmaker had the hero’s mom sitting on the couch and he was making her watch it.
There are non-film celebrities who are as kinky. I remember hearing strange stories about this bunch of famous people from our party circuits. They would all go pub hopping then apparently have group sex.
So what makes celebrities play with fire? I think this is because it is very easy to get men or women. So the regular stuff no matter how attractive the person, fails to excite them. Also being well-known makes the game even riskier in case they are caught. We all know how tempting the forbidden fruit can be. Celebs like to live life over the edge. Like Hugh Grant being caught with a prostitute in a parking lot or a Kate Moss snorting cocaine in a public area and risking her entire career. It is simply very difficult to handle so much fame. This perhaps explains why Tiger Woods did what he did. Why blame the celebs alone? What about the willing opportunists? The attractive gold diggers who are all over the place. Whether it is the polo fields of the South Hamptons or India’s racecourses and political corridors. Even social networking sites. Several people say they are in the entertainment business. Their real job though is to help such women meet rich, bored, old men. Sometimes rising starlets, sometimes falling and fading ones are the most willing victims. They agree to perform at weddings, ‘service’ VIP guests, travel abroad with old but rich men. They fetch crores. Well the dirt just doesn’t stop. This may give us nausea but has certain men salivating. A wife at home, a mistress outside is often not enough for the crore ‘pati’.. Looks like some famous dils are always asking for more.
