Alba also had objections to the church's condemnations of premarital sex and homosexuality, and the lack of strong female role models in the Bible, explaining "I thought it was a nice guide, but it certainly wasn't how I was going to live my life." Her "religious devotion [began] to wane" at the age of 15 when she guest-starred as a teenager with gonorrhea in the throat in a 1996 episode of the television series Chicago Hope; her friends at church reacted negatively to her role, making her lose faith in the church. However, she has stated that she still holds her belief in God despite leaving the church.

In July 2007, Alba spoke out about the break up, saying "I don't know [why I got engaged]. I was a virgin. He was 12 years older than me. I thought he knew better. My parents weren't happy. They're really religious. They believe God wouldn't allow the Bible to be written if it wasn't what they are supposed to believe. I'm completely different." Alba had at one time said she envisioned a much older man as her ideal partner, making references to Morgan Freeman, Sean Connery, Robert Redford, and Michael Caine. She said, "I have this thing for older men. They've been around and know so much."

63. Muslim model to be flogged in Malaysia for drinking beer.
Kuala Lumpur: A Muslim model from Singapore has been sentenced to flogging by a Malaysian Islamic court after she confessed to drinking beer at a nightclub in the city.
Kartika Sari Sewi Shu-karno, 32, a part-time model pleaded guilty of having a beer in a nightclub in 2008, was ordered by the Shariah High Court on Monday to receive six strokes of the cane and pay $ 1,400 as fine, according to New Straits Times.
"The court reached the judgment after the accused pleaded guilty. We feel the sentence is fair after going through the prosecution's argument and since the cane is provided for in the law", said Judge Datuk Abdul Rahman Yunus.
He added the accused could face a three-year jail term if she failed to pay the fine while the canning would be carried out by federal prison authorities.
"The cane is aimed at making the accused repent and serves as a lesson to Muslims," said Yunus according to the newspaper.
Her lawyer Mohd Zuki Che Muhamad Ghani said they would file an appeal against the sentence.
This is the second time the Shariah Court here has imposed whipping on a female. The first was on a waitress and a man who were caught together with Kartika during a raid by the religious police in a hotel in Cherating.

In 2002, an Italian kitchen porter, named Agostino Pomata, was arrested after making nine visits to Schiffer's £5 million Suffolk mansion near Bury St Edmunds, attempting to see her. Charges against Agostino Pomata were dropped however, as he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He believed that the Pope had told him to marry Schiffer.
