27. Maushmi Udeshi to appear in condom ad.
Model-turned actress Maushmi Udeshi, better known as the Nescafe girl, has many ads to her credit and she will now be seen promoting a condom brand, apart from making her debut in Bollywood.
She has modelled for various ad campaigns, which include Kit Kat, Taj Hotels, NIIT and Aristocrat whisky, but it was the Nescafe commercial that catapulted her to into the limelight.
Many are not aware that Maushmi is a trained classical dancer from the Nalanda Dance University and is comfortable with all styles of dancing, ranging from Western to Indian, reports Bollywood Trade.
Maushmi is all excited about her appearance in a condom ad. "My latest ad campaign is for Zaroor condoms, where I am wearing a sari and it's a very clean ad. It basically gives out a social message, especially to the youth who get carried away very easily. It's also about women empowerment and the tagline is 'Male fantasy', reveals Maushmi.
She was earlier seen donning a white sari with her long open tresses in Bally Sagoo's music video "Noorie". The other popular videos she has appeared in include Nitin Bali's "Neele Neele ambar par" and Arvinder Singh's "Pani sharaab mein".
Needless to say, her music albums have created quite a stir and she has already shot for another video for Priyadarshan's forthcoming film "Bhagam Bhaag". "I have just shot for the eight-minute promotional song of 'Bhagam Bhaag' called 'Aafareen' with Akshay Kumar and Govinda. It's a fast racy number with an opera feel to it. It has been shot in a very stylised way and I am really excited about it", gushes the Nescafe lass.
"I am basically an introvert. It was so sweet of Akshay to come and introduce himself to me. Even Govinda was very cordial and down to earth. They both made me feel damn comfortable. I had a blast on the sets," she adds.
She has another music album lined up which is sung by Sonu Kakkad of "Babujee" fame and directed by Siddarth Raj Anand, known for his "Salaam Namaste". "It's called 'dil saara chumbak hai'. Ahmed Khan has choreographed it and it's a hard-core dance number. It will release very soon," exclaims Maushmi.
Her debut film "Lips - The Kiss of Death", opposite Anuj Saxena is said to be an emotional romantic thriller.
"The entire film has been shot in New York. I play the main protagonist in the film and it is produced by a US-based production company owned by S. Khimani. It is a romantic thriller though I am open to all kinds of roles, in fact, I can do great comedy and can play sensitive characters onscreen because I am a very emotional and sensitive in real life. Also, I'm a complete romantic person at heart so basically I want to exhibit my versatility on screen," she says.
28. LFW 2010: Style takeaways.
Designers are in the mood to celebrate! Whether it is the impending end of the recession or the string of festivals around the corner, we saw a riot of colours grace the runway.
Colour me festive!
LFW 2010 had a cracker of a start with the colour palletes on Day 1 ranging from anywhere between kumkum red to turmeric yellow to deep maroon to even bright orange! Of course, the usual suspects - beige, gold, whites and black - made their presence felt. Designers Shyamal and Bhumika brought out the rich shades of deep maroon, vintage gold and blue, among others.
Anand Kabra’s spiritual collection featured kumkum reds, orange, white, grey and turmeric yellow. Anita Dongre's collection included shades of reds, bursts of pink, royal green and blue, vibrant oranges and gold.
Must-have:
Angarkha coat The long Angarkha coat should definitely feature in your festival wear! Neeta Lulla’s version of the coat was embellished with sequins and glamorous Swarovski stones mixed with traditional Kundan work and had deep plunging necklines. Most other designers added a sensual touch with a sexy back.
Embellish away!
Bandhini, badla work, gota embroidery and borders were the highlight in Anita Dongre’s collection of long flowy kurtas, lehenga cholis, jodhpuris, shararas and jackets. The designer's store with her label 'Timeless will open tomorrow.
Go velvet!
Velvet and more velvet is the fabric for the season. Whether you have a lehenga in velvet or just a little touch of velvet in the border of your sari, this fabric is an essential. Brocade, zardozi and gota were used again and again by most designers to add a touch of shimmer and bling. The paisley is a design to watch-out as designer used zardozi embroidery for exquisite paisleys.
Fusion fashion:
Mixing Indian wear with western sensibilities seemed to be the order of the day. Kabra notes, “It’s really not about Indian wear or western wear. It’s definitely much more complex than that. My collection is inspired by the Kumari Goddess of Nepal who as a little girl is believed to be a reincarnation of a Goddess. She is worshipped and pampered from head to toe till she reaches puberty and then she is let loose into the real world. Imagine her state of mind when this happens! I was so fascinated with this concept that I have tried to balance the spiritual and sensual with my collection.”
South Indian fabrics like Kanjivaram and Mangalkari cotton were also part of his collection.
29. Stressed? Eat melons!.
Researchers found that the supplement cut down the signs and symptoms of perceived stress and fatigue in healthy volunteers.
Marie-Anne Milesi from Seppic, France, worked with a team of researchers to evaluate its anti-stress effects in 70 volunteers.
"We wanted to test whether augmenting the body's ability to deal with oxidative species might help a person's ability to resist burnout," informs Milesi.
"The 35 people in our study who received capsules containing superoxide dismutase (melon derivative) showed improvement in several signs and symptoms of perceived stress and fatigue."
The researchers found a strong placebo effect in the volunteers who received inactive starch capsules, as can be expected when studying subjective feelings like stress.
However, the improvements seen in the supplement group were significantly greater, especially after 28 days, according to a release of BioMed Central.
"The placebo effect was only present during the first seven days of supplementation and not beyond," said Milesi.
"It will be interesting to confirm these effects and better understand the action of antioxidants on stress in further studies with a larger number of volunteers and a longer duration," she added.
30. How to combat oily skin.
All women crave for a glowing complexion - but an oily nose and forehead is bound to turn you off. Women who have a greasy skin are constantly
battling against shine and spots.
Hyper active sebaceous glands result in oily skin that makes us more prone to blackheads and enlarged pores and spots.
Oily skin is prone to spots and breakouts as the greasiness can block the pores and attract dirt and grime. Use an oil free make-up remover that will remove dirt without leaving your skin feeling greasy.
Choose a good facial wash or cleanser to keep pores really clean. You can also use a facial scrub or mask for a deep cleanse. Finish off with a moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated while balancing out the effects of excess oil.
Oily skin makes applying make-up difficult. Choose a foundation which has been specially created for oily skin and which has a 100 per cent oil-free formula to keep skin looking fresh and even all day.
Apply lots of powder to your eyelids as a good base for your eye colour and use powder rather than cream eyeshadows, as they absorb any excess oil.
Cream blushers can rub off easily so choose a powder blusher instead. Oily skin can also make your mascara run, giving you smudges, so buy a waterproof mascara that will remain intact all day.
Carry blotting papers in your bag for instant touch-ups to remove shine and help stop the build-up of dirt in the pores.
